Hi everyone!

My name is Dongqi Yang from china, I am horror to be here today and I am very happy to receive this award. As you can imagine, as international students in Australia, the biggest challenge is English, I remembered that when I come here first time, there is a party in the house of my home stay. During the time, they played jokes and they laughed all the time, do you know how embarrassed that is, everyone laughed except you. So I pretend to understand the joke in another party, I saw everyone laugh and I laugh too in 5 seconds later. My home stay was surprised about that and asked me “do you understand?”, and I answered “no”, “So why do you laugh?” ”because I do not want to be embarrassed”!

But as I receive this award today, I want to thank to them, because they encourage me to be involved with the committee rather than staying in at home, play computer and speak Chinese. When I came to Wantirna College first time, I met liz collar who is international student coordinator. She is very kind to me, and she encourage me join SRC, I went to SRC meetings regularly all the time, but I didn’t even know what SRC was! That is the reason why I told her, I don’t want to go to SRC anymore. But she said “why not? You should go and you have to go!”I asked” why?” she said:” because I said so!”

But as ii receive this award today, I want to thank her. She helps me a lot. Truth be told, I am not the best student in Wantirna College, but I appreciate this award and I will try my best in future. I think I got 10 seconds left, I want to thank to Les and Vera who is my lovely home stay, thanks to Liz collar who is international student coordinator, I strongly want to thank to my mother, because she support me and gave me the opportunity to come to Australia. And thanks to Wantinran College, thanks to Australia and finally, thanks to everyone to be here tonight. Have a great night.

As everyone knows, People can get much information through the Internet. Meanwhile, people are also clearly aware of its disadvantages, but some children don’t realize they sometimes make friends with bad people online.

In my opinion, people can use the Internet to make friends, download useful materials and go shopping online. It’s really very helpful.

However, there are also many disadvantages about the Internet. If you can’t use it correctly, it may be harmful to you. In junior middle school, I was once crazy about playing online games and I couldn’t control myself.

As a result, my study results were getting from bad to worse. Besides, if you believe whatever your friends say online, you will be cheated by them some day, I think.

As a student, we should spend more time on studying and less time on the Internet. Of course, if we can control our time of surfing the Internet, we surely can use it after school.

The topic of my speech today is " Being a Good Listener". Good listening can always show respect, promote understanding, and improve interpersonal relationship.

Many people suggest that parents should listen more to their children, so they will understand them better, and find it easy to narrow the generation gap; teachers should listen more to their students, then they can meet their needs better, and place themselves in a good relationship with their students; students should listen more to their classmates, thus they will help and learn from each other, and a friendship is likely to be formed.

What I want to stress is that each of us should listen more to others. Show your respect and never stop others till they finish their talk. Show you are interested by a suppmtive silence or a knowing smile. Be open-minded to different opinions even though you dont like them..ln a word, good listening can really enable us to get closer to each other.

I have had a lot of teachers in my school who have given me much help in my study. For their help I will never forget them. But today I am going to talk about a special teacher of mine.

This teacher is not a human being and its name is“Computer”. It has been teaching me a lot of knowledge and I appreciate it very much.

With the development of modern science and technology, computers are widely used in every teritories [every field] including education. How can a computer be my teacher? How does a computer teach me? Multimedia「多媒体」helps a lot in this aspect in recent years, and computer-based training 「CBT」 has become a popular educational medium 「手段」.

Even before the multimedia come [came] up, many different learning systems appeared, using the components and techniques we now associate with the term “multimedia”.

Multimedia components, such as graphics 「动画」 , animations , sound and video, make the learning process easier through visualization. Animations can present many complex subjects dynamically, but human teachers can not do this on blackboards. Multimedia makes our study more lively and interesting.

For example, a CD-ROM disk named “Encarta Encyclopedia” contains 650 MB information including images, graphics, music clips, video clips, animations , texts, hotwords, and database search functions. Fields involved includes physical sciences, performance arts, social sciences, politics, military, education and so on. When pressing a button, I can hear American President Clintons speech clip.

I may enjoy playing all kinds of musical instruments in the world. I can also see the animation of many physical phenomena. This makes physical concept to be understood deeply [ concepts understood better]. The audio features of multimedia can greatly help me learning [learn] foreign languages. With its speech output capabilities, Im no longer dependent on an instructor for proper pronunciation.

How can I interact with a computer? There are many ways, including keyboard, mouse pointer, and touch screen. I often use a keyboard.

When I press right keys, I can see and hear whatever I want. Information world is at my fingertip. I wish that true speech input-output system would be invented one day.

As teachers, computers have a lot of virtues:They are positive, they have good memories and never lose any information stored in them.

They have much knowledge in every field. They can let out all kinds of sounds, and can also improve the efficiency of our study. For example, if I want to, I can skip some chapters so that I can study at my own pace.

Although computers will never take the place of human teachers, they are welcomed by more and more learners. Computers will continue to evolve「发展」with the aid of modern technologies.

Computers are so powerful, helpful and important that everybody needs it, especially in the future! I love my computer teacher!

On may 12th,2015,when the earthquake attacked wenchuan,all chinese--doctors,nurses,soldiers and many many volunteers gave their hands to provide warmth and hope.

At 9:17,may 8th 2015.the olympic flame reached the highest point in the world,the peak of mt qomolangma.at that time we told the world we made it and beijing welcome you.

Chinese people worldwide shared tears and joys for the historical occasion,we are so excited.

That moment we are full of hope.the hope is from the confidence of ourselves.the olympic games have been held successfully in china,shenzhouvii has successfully flown into space,we have set up the satellite called change to the moon!we are proud of china.we have confidence.

However,we have still faced up to many chanllenges.as one of the developing countries in asian countries,the ecnomic crisis have some effect on our motherland.at the same time we still have problems on food,medicare,welfare,relgion and so on.

I have been through the depths of poverty and sickness.When people ask me what has kept me going through the troubles that come to all of us,I always reply: ＂I stood yesterday.I can stand today.And I will not permit myself to think about what might happen tomorrow.＂
